This past weekend, the team at FurKids was alerted to a horrific hoarding situation in South Georgia. They quickly mobilized to save several dogs. These dogs were in dire conditions – starved, dehydrated, matted, and living in filth. Even their paws were severely damaged from having to live on soiled floors.

Furkids’ dedicated intake coordinator, Tina, drove through the night to pick up the dogs in need. They welcomed Rose, Remi, Reese, Riley, and Riker into their program.

While on the way back to the Furkids headquarters, Riley and Riker began to rapidly deteriorate and it was clear they were not going to survive without emergency intervention.

Reese and Remi, who are presumed to be a mom and puppy pair, are emaciated and overrun with fleas. Ren has nerve damage present on his left front leg, indicating a possible previous fracture. He will need x-rays and likely an amputation. Last (but not least), Rose, who is 9 years old, has severe infections in eyes, that may require removal if medication is not curative. She also has four mammary tumors that will biopsied and surgically removed.

FurKids knew that saving this group of dogs would be a massive undertaking, but they could not turn a blind eye to their suffering.
