Rhubarb

Pupdates
Shelter
Rhubarb is a 2-year-old 53-pound pup who came to Austin Humane Society from another shelter as a transfer. She was found as a stray wandering the streets. Unfortunately, Rhubarb is heartworm positive and needs immediate treatment. Her previous shelter was not able to provide her treatment and given her heartworm-positive status for at least several months, we suspect that she has a heavy load in her heart.

Vet Visit
When she arrived at Austin Humane, she was immediately started her on doxycycline, which kills the juvenile heartworms in her system.
In 30 days she will return to the AHS clinic for her first melarsomine injection. Following that, she will return to the AHS clinic for her second and third melarsomine injections.
During this time, she will need to stay very calm to prevent complications with her treatment, like a clot. This should be no trouble for Rhubarb, though, as she seems to be settling into a leisurely life in a foster home.
Foster
Rhubarb is submissive and does well with both cats and dogs! She warms up very quickly and gains confidence with new people even if she is shy at first. She is housetrained and a total cuddlebug! She walks very well on a leash, without any pulling. Her foster mom says that she loves to give kisses and is very docile.
