Reya, a 6-8 month old pitbull mix, was found on the street after she had been struck by a car. It was clear she needed immediate medical attention as she had suffered a badly broken front leg. It was unknown if she sustained any internal injuries.
A good Samaritan witnessed the horrible incident and brought her to the emergency clinic. Our friends at AMA Animal Rescue were contacted to ensure Reya received the care she so desperately needed.
Reya was hospitalized upon arrival and immediately received IV pain medications, antibiotics, and fluids to ensure she is comfortable. She underwent a series of tests, including x-rays and ultrasounds, to determine the extent of her injuries. Thankfully, the trauma did not extend beyond her leg.
Reya’s doctors determined that an emergency amputation was required due to her bones being shattered and unrepairable. In addition to emergency surgery, Reya will require extensive physical therapy to help her build strength in her remaining three legs.
