Rescue
Mint was welcomed by Austin Humane Society, along with 12 of his friends, after they were seized by Bastrop County by animal control. Unfortunately, this group of dogs were all living in the same home and not getting the care that they needed. When Mint arrived, staff noticed he had a round-shaped wound on his left front leg and was unable to put any weight on it.
Vet Visit
The medical team immediately took x-rays of his leg to determine what the cause of injury was. They were shocked to find that Mint had been shot. He still had the bullet lodged in his leg and it had entirely shattered his bones. They knew he had to be in terrible pain and immediately began discussions with a specialist.
Mint went to see the orthopedic surgeon at Central Texas Veterinary and Specialty Hospital to determine his treatment plan. Due to the severity of the break, he will required an external fixator to be placed, which is a device used to keep fractured bones stable and aligned. After the bone has healed, Mint will have another procedure to remove the external hardware.
Mint’s road to recovery is long but we’re sure everything is going to get better from here on out.
