Shelter
FurKids in Atlanta, GA received an emergency plea from a nearby county shelter. They had 4 puppies, from two separate litters, who had been surrendered to the shelter from the same home. Another rescue had committed to take them until they learned that all four puppies had tested positive for parvovirus.
The shelter unfortunately does not have the resources to treat parvovirus, as it typically requires expensive and around-the-clock care, in addition to being extremely contagious. Therefore, the shelter had planned to euthanize all of them within 30 minutes. That’s when FurKids stepped in to save their lives.
The puppies were sent directly to the veterinary clinic to receive medical care.
Vet Visit
Upon arrival to the vet, the puppies were exhibiting signs of lethargy and weakness. Peach and Lemon had become very ill after a short period of time and were immediately transferred to the emergency vet. They require ongoing supportive care, including medication and IV fluids to survive parvovirus.
Thankfully, Papaya and Honeydew’s symptoms are less significant than their friends, but will remain at the clinic for supportive care and observation.
