Rescue: Street Dog Hero

This is Chance. He was brutally beaten, leaving him with a severe facial injury and a broken jaw. His trauma is likely the result of being kicked in the head many times over. Vets were able to staple his head wound, but determined his eye cannot be saved. He needs surgery to remove the damaged eye, along with a CT scan to assess whether his jaw will require reconstruction, as he is currently unable to open his mouth all the way.

Rescue

Chance was found on the streets of San Felipe, Mexico after suffering a brutal act of violence. He had been kicked in the head multiple times, leaving him with a large, open wound and a broken jaw. A local rescue, San Felipe Dog Rescue, stepped in to save his life, but they did not have access to the advanced care he desparately needed. Without further treatment, euthanasia was becoming the only option.

Under the care of the rescue in Mexico, Chance was treated immediately for his severe head wound and resulting infections. Veterinarians were able to staple the wound closed and start him on antibiotics, which successfully cleared the infection and allowed the wound to begin healing. Despite these efforts, the trauma caused irreversible damage to one of his eyes, leaving it unrepairable and painful.

Determined to give Chance a fighting chance, Street Dog Hero made the decision to bring him to the United States so he could receive specialized medical care. Chance was driven all the way from Mexico to Oregon, where he could be evaluated by veterinary specialists and begin his journey toward healing.

Vet Visit

Upon arrival to Street Dog, Chance was evaluated to determine the full extent of his injuries and the best path forward. Diagnostics, confirmed the severity of the trauma to his face and head, including damage that limits how far he can open his jaw.

Chance will need surgery to remove the damaged eye (enucleation) to eliminate ongoing pain and prevent future complications. While he is sedated he will undergo a CT scan to determine if reconstructive jaw surgery is needed.

Despite the unimaginable cruelty he endured, Chance remains an incredibly loving and gentle puppy who still believes in people and greets them with a wagging tail.
