This is Mylo. He was hours away from being euthanized due to his medical needs. He is suffering from chronic and painful ear infections. He’ll need ongoing care in addition to a total ear ablation surgery. We stand firm in our belief that no dog should ever be euthanized just because they have a wonky ear.

Shelter

Mylo was surrendered to the South LA Shelter, likely due to his his medical needs.

South LA Shelter volunteers instantly became smitten with his sweet and playful personality. He loved to show them his toys, romp around the yard, and would cozy up to them for cuddles. He did well in playgroup, where he’s described as tolerant around the other dogs. He also had multiple kennel mates (due to lack of space) and did well with them.

Due to extreme over crowding at the shelter, Mylo had run out of time. Shelter volunteers were heartbroken by the news and reached out to us directly. We worked to find him rescue placement and hours before he would have been euthanized, Real Good Rescue stepped in to save his life.

Mylo went straight from the shelter to the vet to assess his condition.

Vet Visit

Mylo underwent a thorough examination at the vet clinic. His is experiencing a significant amount of pain and has trouble hearing. A CT scan revealed that he has severe mineralization of both ear canals, which means there is a buildup of hard material in the ear canals. This can block sound waves from reaching the eardrum and affect hearing.

Thankfully, his left eardrum is intact- but, due to severe infection, he needs a TECA (total ear canal ablation) in this ear. This procedure will remove the affected ear canal lining. His right eardrum, unfortunately, has ruptured. This is causing hearing loss, dizziness, and ear infections. He will require long term medication and testing to ensure he’s on the right medication. Hopefully, with treatment, he will regain some hearing in his right ear. If treatment fails, then he will require a second TECA procedure in his right ear.

Despite the pain (and partial deafness), Mylo is a polite pup who loves people. He has a long road ahead of him, but we’re so happy to be a part of his journey.
