Tugboat came to the Austin Humane Society as a stray with severe burns on his legs, paws and belly from walking on the hot, Texas pavement. The burns are very deep, bloodied and will take time to heal. The Austin Humane team immediately noticed how sweet he is: “He loves snuggles and will sit right in your lap for attention. He is a patient, calm boy who just wants love.”

Vet Visit
When he arrived, the medical team jumped into action and started giving him medicated foot soaks to alleviate his pain and prevent infection. Tugboat needs daily application of medicine and bandage changes for his paws. He is also on antibiotics and pain meds to keep him comfortable. During his vet exam, they also found cactus spines that were stuck in his neck, which were removed.
Here’s a timelapse of the vet changing out Tugboat’s bandages, featuring a very delicious Kong:

Foster
Tugboat will be taken care of Austin Humane Society’s Animal Services team, so he doesn’t have to spend time in a kennel while he’s healing. He will have regular bandage changes for 10-14 days and then his healing progress will be re-evaluated by a vet. He’s going to stay with the Animal Services team until he’s healed up, then he will be up for adoption.
“Tugboat is the sweetest boy and wags his tail whenever you enter a room! He doesn’t have much interest in walks right now (who can blame him?) but he loves belly rubs. If you stop petting him, he will take his bandaged paw and tap your arm until you pet him again.” -Austin Humane Society
