Topo Chico

Pupdates
Shelter
Topo Chico lived outside on a tether with several other dogs at his original home in Texas. He was surrendered to a rescuer, who helped transport him to One Tail at a Time. When he arrived, he tested positive for heartworms and had developed a severe heart murmur. This sweet little pup also has blood in his urine, so he needs a lot of medical support.

Freedom Ride
“Through it all, he has been the sweetest little guy. He rode all the way from Houston to Chicago without a peep!”

Vet Visit
The poor guy had a cardiologist consultation and the vet found out that his heartworm had progressed to a fatal stage called Caval Syndrome. CS occurs when a mass of adult heartworms is hindering the normal blood flow through the heart.
Surgical extraction of the blockage became immediately necessary if there is to be a reasonable chance for recovery. He was rushed to the University of Illinois where 11 adult worms were surgically extracted from his heart. He’s currently in a foster home resting and recovering.
