In September of 2020, Pancakes was abandoned by her previous owner after being used exclusively for breeding. They left her chained up at a tire shop, emaciated and severely neglected. Thanks to the shop owner, AMA Animal Rescue was contacted to help her.
Pancakes was so defeated that she barely moved from her makeshift cardboard bed, but managed to greet her rescuers with a wagging tail and some gentle nose boops.
Pancakes was immediately seen by a vet to determine the extent of her medical issues. She was first diagnosed with an elongated soft palate, which was causing breathing difficulties for her. She underwent a surgery to correct her palate and is now able to breathe well.
As Pancakes recovered from surgery, it was clear that her skin was not improving as expected with proper care and nutrition. A dermatologist concluded that Pancakes has severe allergies that will require lifelong management, including expensive and extensive allergy testing. Without treatment, she will experience infections, painful swelling, redness, and cracking of the skin.
Despite her terrible past, Pancakes is so loving and sweet that she doesn’t even need syrup.
