Shelter

Nonnie was taken to a vet clinic for extreme weight loss, decreased appetite, and excessive thirst. She had visited the same vet clinic two months previously when she had an eye infection so severe that it required the removal of her right eye, so the veterinary team was familiar with her. Fast forward to her current medical issues: bloodwork revealed a dangerous increase in her sodium levels, and she had a very low body temperature. Due to her condition, the vet recommended hospitalization. Unfortunately, her owner did not have the finances and made the decision to surrender her to the vet clinic so she could get the care she needed to survive.

The veterinarian rushed her to an emergency and specialty hospital for overnight care. She was released the next day, but began to experience difficulty breathing, and was submitted to another hospital for additional emergency care. With nobody available to fund Nonnie’s treatment, she was at risk of facing economic euthanasia. The rescue, Bosley’s Place, was contacted and asked to take on Nonnie’s ongoing medical care. They agreed, saving her from euthanasia.

Vet Visit

Nonnie became a Bosley’s Place puppy as she was on the brink of death. The vet identified the issues and diagnosed her with pyloric stenosis, a condition where the pylorus – the lower portion of the stomach that leads into the small intestine – becomes narrowed. It can cause the obstruction of flow of food to the stomach. After properly identifying the issue, Nonnie had life-saving surgery to repair the passage. Her procedure was a success, but she still has a long road to recovery ahead of her. For the foreseeable future, she will need weekly bloodwork, modified nutrients, and a meal plan.

Foster

While Nonnie recovers, she’s living with a veterinarian foster mom, so she will get the best care possible. While her G.I. system heals, her feeding will be split between oral and tube-fed through her stomach for the first few weeks. As she begins to feel better, Nonnie’s personality has begun to shine. She’s a sweet and loving puppy who just wants to give everyone kisses.
