Rescue
Our rescue partner Animal Pad, in partnership with Keeping Finn, made a trip down to Mexico to help dogs in need. They came to the aid of an old black lab who had been abandoned at a property – alone – for over six years. The lab, Morgan, was kept alive by neighbors feeding him kibbles through the fence. Despite his isolation, he’d bring his most prized possession to the fence for passerby’s to play with him. An old, dirty, crushed up water bottle he’d ask strangers to toss for him so he could happily fetch it.
Freedom Ride
Keeping Finn and Animal Pad obtained legal permission to spring the lab from the backyard and gave Morgan his first taste of freedom in six years. The rescue loaded him up and brought him back to the U.S. They made sure his special water bottle was in tow.
Shelter
Morgan was taken to Animal Pad across the boarder and loved on by every single person there. “He was hugged, kissed, and shown affection the way he should have been every day for the past 6 years, and our entire team loved him hard to make up for all the time he missed out on,” said staff at Animal Pad. “Despite being by himself for so long, he’s a good black lab who loves people and loves fetch.”
Medical Challenges
After moving into his foster home, Morgan got a medical workup. Just as this old guy’s life was beginning, he was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor – cancer. He is undergoing chemotherapy to treat it.
“Morgan is always a star patient at the vet, but he was especially adorable during his first chemo session as he held his favorite ball in his mouth the entire time. We call it his emotional support ball. After chemo, he asked his oncology team to play a quick game of fetch and they happily obliged. His vet team, like everyone who meets Morgan, sees his special. It’s impossible not to.”
Foster
Morgan is currently with the perfect foster home – a place with humans who love him as much as he deserves. He has a foster sister who is the spitting image of him, and they get along so well. Morgan is a happy-go-lucky guy who is a puppy in a senior’s body. He’s got a lot of fight left in him and an entire team of people behind him to support him in his battle against cancer.
