Maggie has been living in deplorable conditions with her nine puppies on a property in rural Tenneessee. A local rescue, RARE, arrived to help a group of dogs without knowing the severity of Maggie’s condition. They found her emaciated with massive, open wounds on her back and tail.
It was evident that Maggie’s case would require immediate and extensive medical treatment. Our rescue partner, Wags & Walks, agreed to take on Maggie’s case to ensure she can have the life she has always deserved. Within 24 hours, Maggie and her puppies were rescued from the property.
Maggie was rushed to the emergency clinic. It has been determined that Maggie’s wound originated from a gunshot. Bullet fragments have been found during the initial wound cleaning. It is clear that she was left in this state for a long period of time. The skin surrounding the initial injury started to decay, leaving her spinal chord exposed.
The medical team has begun aggressively treating her infection. Thankfully, x-rays do not show any damage to her vertebrae. Maggie will require immediate surgery to thoroughly clean the wounds and address whether her tail requires amputation.
Maggie is the sweetest girl, despite the unimaginable amount of pain she has endured. Although the majority of her history is completely unknown, we do know she was a wonderful mom, and kept her 9 puppies safe.
