Shelter
Pumpkin was left at the shelter when she was extremely pregnant, very underweight and had poor body condition due to neglect. Because she was pitbull AND pregnant, she was at risk of being euthanized. Rescue partner Wags and Walks couldn’t leave her behind, so they pulled her from the shelter and transported her to a foster home where she could safely, comfortably wait for her puppies to arrive.

Vet Visit
Pumpkin gave birth to a litter of healthy, chunky puppies but it became apparent she wasn’t feeling well after delivery. Once the puppies were weaned, Pumpkin crashed within a few days. She was falling over, unable to walk and vomiting. She was rushed to a specialist where she was diagnosed with being in danger of going septic. Pumpkin was immediately given a catheter and treatment.
Since she was a nursing mom, it was too challenging to diagnose what specifically was wrong with poor Pumpkin, and why she got so sick so quickly.
One main issue is the mastitis, which was compounded with her being weak and emaciated. The infection spread which is what caused her to almost go septic.
Pumpkin was then in stable condition, but her mammary gland exploded. She was then put under close supervision to see if the others did the same. It was clear she would need surgery to close everything and let it heal.

Foster
Pumpkin has proven to be an incredibly resilient mama! Although she has been through multiple surgeries, ER visits, and on several medications, she has maintained her adorable, sweet personality.
She is still in foster care healing. She is a few weeks away from being available for adoption, but she has made it through the worst of it and is on the final stretch of recovery.
