Betty

Betty

Betty was officially adopted on February 28, 2022, and her forever family loves her very much. Additionally, she is healing very well post-surgery, and the pins in her leg were removed on March 24! We will continue to cover any and all medical bills related to her leg injury, the original reason she was unlikely to make it out of the shelter. You can read her entire journey below.

Shelter

We were made aware of Betty on Monday the 17th. She’s 5 years old and only 12 pounds. It was clear her body had been through some serious trauma and she needed immediate medical care.

Freedom Ride

She was handed to Lindsay from Deity Animal Rescue wrapped in a warm blanket. It was rainy that morning in LA. Her shakes went away as they drove out of the shelter and headed towards the vet.

Vet Checkup

Betty has a severely broken leg and several fractured ribs. We believe we can fix the leg with surgery and a whole lot of metal. The rib fractures are barely visible from the outside, but obvious to the touch. Those will have to heal on their own. We are confident we can fix her up.

Surgery 1/19/22

Betty underwent surgery to repair her fractured leg on January 19. The surgery went well, but her leg had to be set with external hardware and pins. She went to her foster home to recover, and she has really come out of her shell. She has a fun personality and doesn’t let her leg hold her back in any way.

Post-Surgery 2/2/22

Betty got her stitches out today! Her next check up is scheduled for March 2, when hopefully, she will have the pins removed.

Post-Surgery 3/2/22

According to x-rays taken at today’s follow up appointment, it looks like Betty’s leg still has some healing to do, so her pins will not be removed just yet.

8 years ago we adopted a 3 yr old beagle from our local shelter. She needed surgery for mammary cysts and hadn't been spayed yet. She was also terribly underweight. We didn't know her history so we were determined to make her future the best we could. She has repaid us tenfold with so much joy and love over the years–it has been wonderful! I'm sure that Betty's future family will be equally blessed!! ????
